What Exactly Is an Invisalign Touch-Up?
An Invisalign Touch-Up focuses on the minor changes that may have happened since your original braces or clear aligner treatment, rather than starting the entire process over again.
Because there's so much less to move, it's shorter, simpler, and less expensive than the first time around. Your treatment time and fee will depend on how much your teeth have shifted and what needs to be corrected.
How To Know If a Touch-Up Is Right for You
Almost everyone who's had orthodontic treatment may run into a little movement eventually. Teeth are not set in concrete — they keep moving your whole life. If any of these sound like you, a touch-up is probably all you need.
- Your Front Teeth Are Overlapping AgainThey overlap slightly now in a way they didn't before.
- Your Retainer Is Long GoneLost, cracked, thrown out with a napkin, or it just stopped fitting years ago.
- A Gap Is ReopeningSpace that closed during your last treatment is quietly coming back.
- One Tooth Has RotatedAnd now it's the only thing you look at in every photo.
- Your Teeth Have Gradually Shifted Over The YearsTeeth may shift with age, even if you did everything right.
Invisalign Touch-Up vs. Full Invisalign Treatment
The aligners may look similar, but the treatment plan can be very different.
| Full Invisalign | Touch-Up | |
|---|---|---|
| What Moves | The whole arch, plus your bite | Only the teeth that drifted |
| How Long | Often 12–24 months | Usually 3–6 months |
| How It Feels | Real pressure with each new tray | Milder — small moves, short distances |
| Visits | Regular check-ins across the whole plan | A handful |
| Cost | Higher | Lower |

Invisalign Touch-Up, Invisalign Express, Invisalign Lite
You may hear terms such as Invisalign Express, Invisalign Lite, or Invisalign Touch-Up when researching shorter aligner treatments. These terms can refer to different types of limited Invisalign treatment, and terminology can vary between practices and treatment plans.
What matters most is not the label. It is whether your teeth can be corrected with a limited treatment plan and what that plan looks like for you. At your consultation, we'll show you exactly what needs to move, how long treatment is expected to take, and what your treatment will cost.
Don't Give It Another Month. Let's Get Your Smile Back.
Here's the thing about drifting teeth: they don't drift back on their own. Every month you wait is a little more movement to undo, and a case that's quick and inexpensive today, gets longer and pricier the longer it sits. Three steps, and you're done with this for good.

Wear Your Trays For a Few Months
A short series of aligners moves only the teeth that moved on you. No metal, nothing anyone can see, and many people may finish in three to six months.

Lock It In For Life
The moment your teeth are back in place, we do another digital scan and make custom retainers from that exact position, to protect your teeth from moving again. That scan stays on file, so if you ever lose a retainer, or somehow damage it, we can make you a fresh one from the same digital record — no new impressions, no starting over.
A Touch-Up Still Requires Expertise
Even a small amount of tooth movement deserves careful planning. A touch-up is not simply about making a few teeth look straighter—it is about moving them into the right position while considering your bite, surrounding teeth, and overall alignment. That is why a board-certified orthodontist remains an important part of the process, even for a short treatment.
Dr. Amir Assefnia is a board-certified orthodontist and clinical faculty member at the UCLA Orthodontic Clinic. He evaluates how your teeth have shifted, how they relate to your bite, and what type of treatment will provide the right correction. In some cases, a new retainer may be all you need—and if that's the case, he'll let you know.

Invisalign Touch-Up & Invisalign Express FAQ
How Long Does an Invisalign Touch-Up Take?
Most Invisalign touch-up cases take about three to six months. Because these cases address minor tooth movement, treatment is typically much shorter than a full Invisalign treatment. Your exact treatment time will depend on the amount and type of tooth movement needed.
How Much Does an Invisalign Touch-Up Cost?
At Super Orthodontics, Invisalign touch-up cases typically start at around $3,000. The cost depends on the complexity of your case and the amount of treatment needed. You will receive an exact, personalized treatment plan and fee at your free consultation.
Is Invisalign Touch-Up the Same as Invisalign Express or Invisalign Lite?
Invisalign Express and Invisalign Lite are terms used for shorter Invisalign treatments designed for more limited tooth movement. An Invisalign touch-up is also a shorter treatment focused on specific areas that have shifted. The appropriate treatment option depends on your individual teeth and the amount of movement needed.
How Do I Know If I Need an Invisalign Touch-Up?
If your teeth have shifted slightly after braces or Invisalign, you may be a candidate for a touch-up. This can include small spaces, minor crowding, or teeth that have rotated or moved out of alignment. A consultation and 3D scan can determine whether a short touch-up, a new retainer, or another option is appropriate.
Why Did My Teeth Move After Braces or Invisalign?
Teeth can naturally shift over time, even after successful orthodontic treatment. This is especially common when retainers are not worn as recommended, no longer fit properly, or are lost or damaged. Retainers help maintain the position of your teeth and reduce the risk of unwanted movement. Some degree of shifting over time does not necessarily mean that your original orthodontic treatment failed.
Do I Have to Go Through Full Invisalign Treatment Again?
Not necessarily. If only a few teeth have shifted, a touch-up treatment may be all that is needed. Dr. Amir will evaluate your teeth and bite and use a 3D scan to determine how much movement is needed and whether a short Invisalign treatment can address it.
Can I Get an Invisalign Touch-Up If I Haven't Worn My Retainer in Years?
Yes. Not wearing a retainer for an extended period does not automatically rule out a touch-up. The treatment needed depends on how much your teeth have shifted and the condition of your current bite and alignment. We can evaluate your teeth with an examination and 3D scan and determine what approach is appropriate.
Can Invisalign Touch-Up Fix Just My Front Teeth?
In some cases, yes. If the movement is limited to the front teeth, treatment can sometimes be focused on that area. However, Dr. Amir will also evaluate your bite and surrounding teeth to make sure the treatment is appropriate and stable.
My Original Treatment Was at Another Orthodontic Office. Can You Still Help?
Yes. We regularly evaluate patients who completed their original orthodontic treatment at another office. Previous records, photographs, or treatment information can be helpful, but they are not required. We can evaluate your current teeth, bite, and alignment with a new examination and 3D scan.
What Happens at an Invisalign Touch-Up Consultation?
Your consultation begins with an evaluation of your teeth and bite. We use a 3D scan to assess your current alignment and determine what has shifted. Dr. Amir will then discuss your treatment options, estimated treatment time, and cost so you can decide what is right for you.
